Water Heater Problems?

After space heating and cooling, water heating is the home’s biggest energy consumer - which accounts for 15% of your energy bill! When speaking with our clients regarding their water heater maintenance, we first try to encourage you to keep your current water heater running properly – instead of replacing your entire water heater. This can save you a lot of money, not only for a new tank, but in plumber’s installation costs, while guaranteeing that you have confidence in the condition of your water heater.

People fear the rumbling noises that sediment makes and they fear an unexpected flood in their home or garage. Twice a year (or every other month if you live in hard water area), drain a bucket of water from your hot water heater storage tank. This removes sediment which absorbs heat energy and causes you to use more fuel than you otherwise would.

If you must replace your water heater, make energy efficiency your main criterion. Look for information indicating how efficiently the unit uses the energy required for operating it. Also look for a thickly insulated outer shell. When replacing a gas-fired unit, select one equipped with a low-consumption pilot that is matched to the rate of heat loss of the heater.

As always, we’d like to point out that some skill is required for properly maintaining and installing a water heater. If you have the slightest doubt as to your skills, locate and call a water heater technician in your area.
