Why Choose a Programmable Thermostat for your Air Conditioner and Heater System?

Attention homeowners! Did you know that most homeowners spend around 50% of their annual energy bill on heating and A/C? San Diego may well have a climate that borders perfection, but only few of us can tolerate those freezing winter nights and scorching summer days without smoothly functioning heating and air conditioning systems in our homes. One simple way to reduce energy usage in your home is to install a programmable thermostat that automatically adjusts indoor temperature according to preset times and temperatures. Your air conditioning and heating expenses should be reduced by more than 10% if the programmable thermostat is used properly.

Homeowners are sometimes unexpectedly faced with a large expense arising from the failure of a home heating system, central air conditioning unit or another system we rely on for our basic comfort. We dread these scenarios not only because of the high cost of heating or air system repair, but because of the inconvenience of managing without air or heat when it’s most needed. Finding a reliable company to quickly fix the problem can be stressful, and our daily routine is interrupted for home heating repair.

Choosing the perfect sized furnace heater for your home is an important investment. Your qualified central air conditioning contractor should help you make your choice of the correct furnace size. You don’t want one that is too small because it will be constantly flowing to maintain warmth. A furnace that is too big will cycle on and off frequently, which wears down its components faster, unnecessarily wastes energy, and costs more in the end.

What Is a Tankless Water Heater?

Tankless water heaters, also called demand or instantaneous water heaters, heat water as needed without storing it in a traditional, bulky hot water tank. In an old-fashioned water heating system, hot water is stored in a tank, and a large quantity of water is constantly being heated to supply hot water to all faucets and appliances in the home. A tankless water heater on the other hand heats the water whenever a faucet or shower is turned on, eliminating the need for hot water tanks that waste energy by heating the water even when no one is using it. Having “on tap” hot water eliminates system operation in little or non-use periods such as night time or when you’re at work. Installing a tankless water heater will bring in energy savings and a tax credit of up to $1,500 is available to home owners who increase their home’s efficiency with one of these systems.

We are often taken by surprise by how fast the temperature drops after the summer is over, and when it’s time to pay a visit to the basement and check on the old furnace, you may find that you need a heating system repair. Fortunately, for most simple problems there are easy do-it-yourself steps you can take to make sure your home heating system is running and you are nice and cozy during the pumpkin season and beyond.

Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) may be the biggest user of energy in your home or building – about 42% of your total energy bill. To trim those bills remember to turn it off when not needed; run it less; and make it more efficient. HVAC is sometimes referred to as climate control becauseit provides heating, cooling, humidity control, filtration, fresh air, building pressure control, and comfort control.

The cleaning that an Air Duct Cleaner can do on your furnace consists of cleaning any accessible components of the furnace that the air moves across. However, these same components must be cleaned while in place and under no circumstances are they to be removed or altered in any way.

There are two elements to your heating system that need to work in tandem to deliver warm air in an efficient manner. The first is the furnace, and you’re aware of the need to change the filters and perform any other routine maintenance that the manufacturer recommends. The other half of the system — unseen and largely ignored — is the duct system, though which the heated air is delivered into your home.

This winter is coming fast, faster then you or your house may be ready. Besides the fear of the rising oil prices, you shouldn’t have to worry about your furnace or heater not working properly. Having a heating system service done now will ensure that the heat will come on when it is finally needed.

Even though a water temperature of 110° F is ‘relatively-safe’, exposure can be painful; the human pain threshold is around 106-108° F.

As the chart reproduced below reveals, the severity of a burn is a function of the temperature of the water and the duration of the exposure and the condition of the skin. Children and older people, who typically have thinner skin, suffer more severe burns in a shorter time and at lower temperatures than adults. A child can suffer a third-degree burn in 124°F water in less than three minutes. Children and adults can be burned this badly in two seconds
or sooner in 149°F water.

Lower your household costs by regularly scheduling a home energy audit to improve and evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. A home energy audit is the first step every homeowner must do in order to assess how much energy your home is consuming. An audit will show you problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time. During the audit, you can isolate that areas where your house is losing precious energy and in result, your hard-earned money. Home energy audits also determine the efficiency of your home’s heating and cooling systems. An audit may also show you ways to conserve hot water and electricity. You can perform a simple energy audit yourself, or have a professional energy auditor carry out a more thorough audit on your home.
